David Powell

David PowellDavid Powell is Head of Percussion and Assistant Head of the Gwent Music Support Service which currently teaches over 1,000 drum and percussion students weekly through schools and colleges.

David studied Jazz & Light Music at the City of Leeds College of Music and was a post-graduate at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, Goldsmiths College. On leaving college he toured with the critically acclaimed R & B outfit The Big Town Playboys.

As musical director for the Greater Gwent Percussion Ensemble, David regularly writes new material for the group as well as for local school ensembles.

A detailed concert piece for percussion quartet. Written for four snare drums of different pitches this technically challenging piece of medium difficulty is an ideal concert opener for a group of performers of Grade 5 standard and above.
